We in the Production Systems and Materials unit at RISE, Sweden’s research institute and innovation partner, continuously drive the development of measurement technology, process control, automation, AI and digitization with a focus on the sawmill industry. We are now looking for a new colleague who wants to join our team and together with us develop competitiveness in Swedish industry and contribute to the transition to a strong bio-based economy.

We are currently working on:

  • Developing sensor technology and measurement methods for the forest industry
  • AI and digitization in the value chain forest-industry-market
  • Automation of decisions and processes
  • Material characterization wood

The unit for Production Systems & Materials has, among other things, competencies in measurement technology, wood material properties, sawmill processes, AI and digitization. Now we are looking for you who have experience from the wood industry and are passionate about working with development issues.

About the role
Your main tasks will be to create and manage projects and development work within the value chain forest-sawmill-market, with a special focus on measurement, traceability, digitization, AI and automation.

By being active in contacts with stakeholders in the industry such as companies, funders and researchers in academia and other research institutes, you capture development needs in the industry and create assignments and research projects that contribute to the development of the wood industry.

In projects that you participate in or manage, you translate your ideas and knowledge into developments that benefits our clients in the wood industry and research. Achieved project results and conclusions are reported in various ways to the project stakeholders. You will spend a lot of time on being in contact with people in the industry and academia to capture development ideas that are formulated in project proposals.

The position is located in one of the locations Skellefteå, Stockholm, Växjö, Piteå, Umeå, Borås or Gothenburg, but other locations where RISE has offices may also be relevant. The employment is permanent employment with start date according to agreement.

Who are you?
You have an academic degree, preferably a master's degree in engineering, economics or forestry, or researcher and at least 5 years' professional experience in the forest / sawmill / woodworking industry, or other professional experience that is considered equivalent.

You have a good ability to express yourself both orally and in writing in Swedish and English. Class B driving license is a requirement. The work is often carried out in close collaboration with customers where each assignment is unique. To succeed in the role, you therefore need to be curious, driven, innovative and responsive to the customer's wishes and requirements.
