Are you a researcher who wants to contribute to the development towards an increased use of composite materials made of wood in a circular bioeconomy? If so, we're looking for you!

About us
RISE Division Bioeconomy and Health, Division of Materials and Surface Design, is now looking for a researcher with experience in industrial manufacturing processes for wood-based materials and composites with high content of bio-based components. We conduct research and industrial assignments where we develop and evaluate new wood-based materials and composites, all the way from raw material via process development to evaluation of properties in laboratory and on a semi-industrial scale. Some examples are chipboard, plywood, wooden flooring, and glued building elements (CLT, Gluelam, etc.). These materials also need to be protected in different ways, e. g. from moisture, mold, rot, UV light and fire depending on the area of use. Recyclability and reusability are important and desirable aspects.

About the position
In your role as a researcher, you are expected to work both independently and in teams. Together with your colleagues in the composite team, you will plan new projects (after customer request or internal), secure financing (directly from customers and/or public) and implement these in line with RISE's mission which reads "With scientific expertise, we contribute to sustainable growth by building structures and processes for innovation that provide international competitiveness for our customers and partners". As a researcher in our group, you are expected to work with sales activities to initiate new industry assignments and apply for external research funding. You will be involved in developing our business in wood-based materials and composites and implementing, evaluating, and reporting results to customers, to the public and to the research community. Administrative tasks and practical lab work are partly included in the job.

Location: Stockholm or Borås, Sweden.

Who are you?
You are a researcher with a PhD or MSc degree with at least 10 years of work experience with documented knowledge of wood as a material (wood science or wood technology), business development, and experience in areas of wood-based materials and composites (not pulp & paper based). You are passionate about working with research and innovation to help our customers achieve their goals, for a bio-based society and want to contribute to reducing climate impact. Industrial experience is a merit. To succeed in the role, we believe that you are business-oriented and have your own contacts in the industry nationally and/or internationally.

Together with others in the composite team, you will plan new projects (after customer request or internal), secure financing (directly from customers and/or public) and implement these in line with RISE's mission (stated above). You enjoy challenges and can handle multiple tasks in parallel. We would appreciate experience within gluing technology and processes for wood-based boards, glulam, glue, and binders. Knowledge in bio-based composite materials and general polymer chemistry is a merit. You are curious, driven and have good communication skills. We expect you to have good knowledge in technical/scientific English and Swedish (meritorious), in both writing and speech.
