We are now looking for a Unit Manager/Director for the Reliable Transport Systems unit in the Electrification and Reliability department within the Safety and Transport division.

About Us
We at the Reliable Transport Systems unit work with functional safety and cybersecurity for transport systems such as road vehicles, railways, and shipping. We have unique expertise in the interplay between functional safety and security and participate in major international and national research projects in the field. We collaborate with companies, public actors, universities, and colleges on common challenges. In customer assignments, we carry out customized research and product review and contribute with expertise and strategic advice that supports the development of a sustainable transport system. We also participate in standardization groups and hold courses related to reliable transport systems.

As Head of Unit, you will lead a committed and innovative team with high competence consisting of both senior researchers with deep subject knowledge and very knowledgeable project managers with a broad knowledge of the industry and technology. We are a total of 13 employees; PhDs, civil engineers and doctoral students, and as our order backlog grows, we are expected to increase. The unit is represented in Gothenburg and Borås.

About the role
As unit manager for Reliable Transport Systems, you will have the opportunity to support the transformation of industry and the whole of society as both the unit and the department are the hub of RISE's electrification research. By developing your employees and building motivated and productive teams, you together drive the development of the unit, the department and the entire RISE forward.

As a leader, you involve and coach the employees in their task of breaking down the overall mission of the business and securing the ability to innovate. You try to find a balance in the daily activities and have a good ability to prioritize correctly and to convey this to the employees. You work to streamline processes and eliminate things that do not create value or profitability. Being able to create conditions for collaboration and being able to delegate is important, as is giving and taking feedback.

You are part of the department's management team where you take an important role in working with your colleagues to drive the entire department in a continuous journey of change and improvement. You report to the head of the department.

The location for the role is Borås, but parts of the team are located in Gothenburg, so it is possible to sit in Gothenburg one day a week. We are also open to a hybrid solution with a combination of working from home and at the offices in Borås / Gothenburg.

Who are you?

You are passionately interested in functional safety and cybersecurity (security) in research, but also have a clear connection to commercial thinking. We believe that you have a strong network in business, the public sector and universities and colleges.

You are an experienced leader who is used to leading researchers, project managers and development engineers, and you have previous experience of performance responsibility. You have a relevant university education or equivalent. You also have experience of writing applications to or participating in research and/or development projects. Furthermore, you speak and write in Swedish and English unhindered.
