About us

Unit Material Design within the Department Infrastructure and Concrete Technology works to develop new cementitious materials, concrete receipts for different types of applications, as well as apply new structural solutions for construction and infrastructure. Our strategic areas of development are: Concrete Technology, Structural analysis and condition assessment, Recycling and CCS/CCU, Alternative binders, and 3D concrete printing. Our unit works close with the largest cement and concrete producers, as well as entrepreneurs, infrastructure owners, public bodies, regulatory and standardisation committees I Sweden and internationally. The unit has 15 colleagues with interdisciplinary expertise in binder chemistry, material science, as well as civil and structural engineering.

About the position
As a researcher or project leader in the Dep. Infrastructure and concrete technology you will contribute with your expertise to multiple projects and develop your own multidisciplinary research in collaboration within the department and the whole RISE. The work in projects includes laboratory work with fresh and hardened concrete (planning, procurement of materials, mixing and casting, testing) and sometimes larger experiments/field tests on elements or prototypes. Kommunikation and collaboration skills are required in the role of project leader which covers control and monitoring of technical progress, time plan and budget, as well as presentation/reporting of project results to the partners, financiers and broader public. You will also have a possibility to be part of our commissioned research such as supporting clients in products development, advanced testing of new materials or technical expertise with site visits and condition assessment with non-destructive testing.

To begin with you are going to work in EU-funded project iClimaBuilt with over 25 partners from 12 countries which focuses on innovative, multifunctional, cementitious facades for Near-Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEBs). Other ongoing projects which you will start with concern durability (carbonation, chloride and frost resistance) of concrete with alternative binders, as well as concrete substructures for renewable energy (wind, wave and others).

The place of work is Borås or Gothenburg.

Who are you?

We are looking for either a researcher (holding PhD degree) or a project leader (with a minimum Master’s degree) in civil engineering, material science or equivalent with experience in conducting applied research.

As a researcher:

• You have defended your PhD in civil or structural engineering, material science or equivalent and you have experience in conducting applied research.
• You have experience in laboratory work with concrete or/and have knowledge of construction and design of concrete structures according to relevant standards and verification of material properties in testing.
• You have been working in the past with one or more of the following: concrete production, low-carbon concrete, design and testing of concrete elements, testing of concrete properties (fresh, mechanical, durability, etc.), 3D concrete printing, application of recycled materials in concrete, condition assessment of structures, non-destructive testing or monitoring techniques.
• You have published journal papers and presented at international conferences.
• Skills in FEM analysis of concrete and concrete structures is a strong advantage.

As a project leader:

• You have a master’s degree in civil or structural engineering, material science or equivalent and you have experience in conducting applied research.
• You have experience in conducting and leading multidisciplinary projects within research, innovation and business development together with researchers/ academia and industry.
• You have experience and contacts in one of the following: construction industry, concrete production, building materials recycling, CCS/CCU, construction materials testing, 3D concrete printing.

As a person you are active in fulfilling your tasks with an ability to work individually, as well as in a team.  You set high goals for yourself and your team and have motivation to achieve them. You are innovation-driving person within research and technical commissions and you appreciate implementing gained knowledge in practice. You have excellent analytical skills and good communication skills in English and Swedish.
