Are you a researcher in Systems Engineering or Software Engineering, with an interest in complex, software-intensive systems or systems thinking? Do you want to apply your knowledge in exciting research projects related to the digital transformation across different domains?

We are looking for a researcher to strengthen RISE’s strategic initiatives in systems-of-systems. The position is in Kista, Västerås, Gothenburg, or Lund.

Our team is at the international forefront regarding research and development of complex software-intensive systems. We address issues related to the digital transformation, and how to develop systems-of-systems, where independent systems are collaborating with each other. Important concerns are system architecture, business models, safety and security, life-cycle issues, development processes including methods and tools, socio-technical aspects, interoperability, and many more. The research is to a large extent conducted in collaboration with companies and public sector organizations based on concrete examples and demonstrators in a number of application areas, such as transportation, construction, manufacturing, energy, defense, crisis management, health, agriculture, etc. We are also participating actively in the international research community in the field, and our results often lead to scientific publications.

About the role
You are expected to carry out research and innovation projects, independently or in collaboration with colleagues, and in close collaboration with industrial and academic partners, both in publicly funded projects and in direct commissions from industry. You will participate in the writing of funding application as well as in leading projects and activities. You will be working in a passionate team with large individual freedom.

Who are you?
We are looking for a researcher with prior experience from research projects, or with similar experience from industry. Both individuals with longer and shorter work experience will be considered. You appreciate applied research as well as leadership and interaction with knowledgeable problem owners. It is particularly important that you are able to see the whole picture, and find structure in complex situations, which implies that you are comfortable with working on different levels of abstraction and have an understanding of a system’s complete lifecycle.

If you have one or several of the following personal characteristics or experiences, it will be considered as meritorious for the position:

• A PhD in computer science, systems engineering, or related field.
• Practical experience of applied research or system development in industry.
• Knowledge in system architecture, model-based systems engineering, system dynamic analysis, simulation, software development, programming, interoperability, verification and validation, requirements analysis, or information modelling.
• A demonstrated ability to write successful research grant applications.
• Ability to present and document your work in a clear way.
• Fluency in English is a requirement, and good knowledge of Swedish is valuable.
