Description of the Unit
We are looking for a dedicated master’s student to join us in the Connected Intelligence Unit at RISE. The Connected Intelligence Unit is part of RISE Computer Science in Kista. The current research focus is on the Internet of Things. Among the group's key technologies are the Contiki operating system, uIP stack, ContikiRPL, SICSLoWPAN, and lightweight implementation of IPsec and DTLS. The unit conducts projects together with industry and academic partners from Sweden and across the world.

Thesis Description
The Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to enable applications of utmost societal value, such as energy-efficient buildings, smart cities, intelligent grids, and next-generation healthcare.  Such a promise is only partly fulfilled. The more demanding and critical applications still fall short of expectations. These applications require sensor data and actuation commands to be delivered in a timely fashion with high reliability, while the battery-powered devices must often last for years. Due to their resource constraints, these devices cannot run the most sophisticated cryptography algorithms and other defences against attacks. The challenge is thus to make IoT networks maintain their functionality not only under benign circumstances but also in more challenging situations; for example, when IoT networks are under attack. The goal of the thesis is to contribute to robust IoT network attack detection and identification incorporating modern deep learning techniques.
