About us
As a technology research institute, RISE contributes in various ways to innovative technology being developed and used in society and industry. At RISE Fiber Optics and Photonics in Kista, we develop sensors and sensor systems based on optical fiber technology and photonics to meet the needs from industry and society. Our development projects are very varied, and we are not tied to or focused on any particular industry. Instead, we work in areas and industries where new  fiber optic or photonic technical solutions can provide a clear added value. Fiber optic sensors make it possible, for example, to measure quantities distributed over several km in a single cable.

The sensors are intrinsically safe, small and can be integrated and embedded in different materials, which provides many exciting applications in areas such as high voltage / power electronics, energy generation and storage, process industry and med-tech. We work close to our sister unit Fiberlab in Hudiksvall, which develops and manufactures special optical fibers and cabling. The combination of our two units means that we can develop tailor-made fiber-optic sensor solutions in an almost unique way for the benefit of both the applied and research-oriented projects we run together with Swedish and international industry and academia. We are now looking for a research and development engineer who wants to be involved in developing fiber-optic sensor solutions for the benefit of industry and society.

About the role
The role as development and research engineer  means that you contribute to innovative solutions by working practically in the lab with, for example, experimental setups, manufacturing of lab prototypes and measurements and analysis of data from fiber optic sensor systems. The role will mean that you, together with colleagues, contribute practically, theoretically and solution-oriented in many different projects. The emphasis of the projects we have is of an applied nature where some form of prototype or hardware that is developed at the end of the project is installed and evaluated on industry in so-called field trials.

But we also have a number of projects closer to research where basic technologies are developed and where publications and collaborations with national and international research actors are central. In your role, you will work in both of these project categories. You work independently in dialogue with project managers but also together with other colleagues in project teams of researchers, engineers and customers. To work as a team where we are all open and dare to ask questions and learn from each other, we see as something very important and it will also affect the work in your role.

Who are you?
We believe that you have the will and ability to develop innovative technical solutions where you can use your theoretical and analytical skills. But we also like to see that you have practical skills and an ability and willingness to develop physical prototypes,  and use fiber optic process equipment. An optical fiber is very small and the methods we use are often self-developed, so patience and accuracy are qualities that are highly valued. You also do not hesitate to take part in field tests in the industry where the technology we develop is evaluated in a real environment. You have a master's degree or equivalent and are probably at the beginning of your working career. You can easily communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
