Are you a researcher looking for challenges in mechanical reliability and engineering? Do you have a curious and creative mind, eager to learn and to find new solutions across disciplines? Wanting to make a difference?

About us
We are looking for a Researcher within mechanical engineering to join our team of researchers in applied mechanics. Our department is active in several areas, ranging from material properties, system and component reliability, building and infrastructure, to validation methodology, uncertainty quantification and quality assurance of numerical models. We offer an attractive workplace at a truly polytechnic research institute, with one of the largest experimental facilities in Sweden for R&D and commercial assignments related to materials, structural mechanics, and standardized testing. As a researcher at RISE, you will collaborate with dedicated experts in many fields of science and engineering, to address the challenges of our generation.

About the role
As part of our team of researchers, you will work with the conception, planning and execution of a wide range of research and development projects, as well as contributing to short-term industrial research or consultancy projects. Your main focus will be mechanical reliability in industrial applications, including fatigue and reliability of mechanical systems, material properties, numerical modelling and uncertainty quantification. The scope of your work will also be influenced by your own competence profile and your research interests. You will work closely with our industrial clients and partners, as well as with other research entities, both in Sweden and internationally. You will have an individual role, while being part of a research team, with close collaboration with your colleagues, including our experienced engineers and technicians.

The placement for this position is Borås or Gothenburg, depending on your profile.

Who are you?
As a researcher with us at RISE, we believe that you are committed and driven, with a curious and creative mind. You see solutions and opportunities, rather than problems. You seek collaboration and enjoy working in and contributing to a team, but you are also comfortable working independently, taking personal initiative and responsibility. You are well organized and have an interest in creating new business and projects, but also an ability to develop existing ones.

You have a university degree (PhD or licentiate) in mechanical engineering, or similar. You could also have a background in related areas, such as applied mathematics & statistics, engineering physics or quality sciences, with solid experience of mechanical applications. Expertise in solid and structural mechanics is required, including numerical modelling skills. Experience of experimental work is meriting. It is also of merit to have industrial experience and experience of collaborative R&D projects. Competences and experiences related to renewable energy and new/recycled materials are of special interest.

We value our customers and each other, so you should have a good ability to create working relationships with both. You bring energy to the team and contribute actively to the development of a stimulating research environment. You have excellent communication skills (oral and writing) in both English and Swedish. If Swedish is not your native language, we expect you to invest yourself in acquiring adequate Swedish proficiency.

Are we right for each other?
We cannot promise you an easy task, but we can promise you dedicated colleagues and some truly engaging societal challenges to tackle. You will work in a dynamic environment with ample opportunities for both personal and professional development, where we want you to succeed and feel good. At RISE you get the chance to make a real difference!
