About us
Product Design at RISE is looking for a Researcher with focus on food extrusion technology. The unit consists of twenty-three experts in technology and design of foods and other biobased materials, assisting industry with product development and applied research. Topics range from novel plant-based food, 3D-printed food for seniors to “trouble-shooting” and product development of food products as well as novel applications of nano-cellulose and marine biopolymers. We combine experimental expertise with testbeds (see https://www.ri.se/sv/vad-vi-gor/test-demo/pilotproduktion-av-livsmedel), with advanced instrumental analysis of food structure, materials science and aroma chemistry.

About the role
The role as Researcher includes generating and managing projects together with clients and public partners in the field of extrusion technology to develop tasty and healthy food products based on fundamental understanding of the raw material properties, physical and chemical mechanisms during and after processing, and how the process influences the final product characteristics. Together with your colleagues, you will be expected to contribute to the overall development of the extrusion area at the department. You will also be responsible for delivering scientific and technical results within project budget and time plan. In addition, method development, training of junior colleagues as well as coordinating and active participation in practical work in our test and demo facilities are all aspects that are included in the work.

We focus on applied research and all work is conducted in collaboration with our customers, who range from SMEs to large multinational companies. Part of the work is therefore also on establishing and maintaining a network within food industry and with public funding agencies. The work is always in close collaboration with other colleagues and competences, within and outside RISE.

The position is located i Gothenburg.

Who are you?
You like challenges and look for solutions, and like working together with colleagues and external partners both in academia and industry. Experience of generating and performing research projects as well as development projects within food extrusion technology (food, feed, ingredients) is a very strong merit, particularly previous experience from extrusion of food proteins and fundamental understanding of raw material properties and how the process influences the final product characteristics. We think you have PhD in food engineering, (bio)materials science or equivalent, and experience from food industry is desirable as is an established network in academia and/or industry. You should enjoy maintaining and developing customer contacts to develop new research projects.

Fluent English, both in writing and verbally, and good knowledge in Swedish is a very strong merit.
